WHY ATHLETIC TRAINING?
Athletic trainers are certified professionals specialized in the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Athletic trainers are also emergency professionals with specialized training in the acute management of injuries and medical conditions.
Of all workplace injuries, the top 5 most frequently reported injuries are conditions athletic trainers are most known to prevent, treat, and manage. According to the 2014 Travelers’ Injury Impact Report, strains and sprains accounted for 30% of all injuries and resulted in an average of 57 days away from work. The average costs of strains and sprains per claim was $17,000.
Inflammation such as tendinitis of the knee or elbow is another common injury seen in the workforce that resulted in an average of 91 days away from work with the average cost being $24,000 per claim.

Injury Prevention:
Consultation and assessment of workplace hazards and ergonomic assessment of all employee workstations.
Continual recommendations for workstation modifications and individualized exercise recommendations designed to prevent workplace injury.
Education and Guidance
Wellness recommendations for nutrition, prevention of heat illness, and proper hydration practices.
Development of injury prevention programs based on individualized ergonomic assessments.
Continuing education programs for employees and employers regarding workplace injuries, physical fitness, and overall wellness.
Recognition and Evaluation
Injury evaluation and triage
Injury recovery education and recommendations
Functional capacity assessments
Administration of first aid for conditions such as cuts, lacerations, burns, etc.
Rehabilitation
Onsite treatment and rehabilitation such as therapeutic massage, joint mobilization, exercise instruction, and postural correction strategies.
Coordination of work restrictions to help enable employees to remain productive at work within safe limits due to injury.
Administration
Expedited and streamlined care management when injuries do occur.
Documentation of employee injuries and recovery progress compliant with HIPAA and OSHA standards
Collaboration with employees’ healthcare providers, other onsite medical personnel, workers’ compensation representatives, shift foremen, company admin, and other applicable stakeholders.
Consult for emergency action plans.​
Off-site consultation and on-call care will be provided for up to 2 hours per week for traumatic injuries such as cuts, lacerations, burns, or fractures that require urgent evaluation and management.
